Safety Warnings

Tie-Downs are load securement tools manufactured to secure cargo. Inherently, there are risks involved with operating load securement tools and hardware. It is critical for all tie-downs to be used properly and within the strength limitations of the product. Every tie-down application has unique aspects that must be attended to.

The following page outlines the basic tie-down industry safety warning statements. Some statements apply to all situations, such as never exceeding the working load limit. Others are specific to the type of tie-down or application which the tie-down is being used. For your safety and the safety of others, please be sure to use your tie-down product(s) properly and in accordance with the law.

PRIOR TO USING ANY PRODUCT FROM CUSTOMTIEDOWNS.COM, CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS, WARNINGS AND SAFETY INFORMATION THAT ACCOMPANY OR THAT ARE CONTAINED ON THE PRODUCT.

IT IS THE OWNER'S/USER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO EVALUATE THE SUITABILITY OF ANY CARGO SECURING DEVICE OR OTHER PRODUCT, FOR ANY PARTICULAR NEED OR APPLICATION. CHECK ALL APPLICABLE INDUSTRY, TRADE ASSOCIATION, FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL REGULATIONS

ALL RATINGS REFERENCED ON THIS WEBSITE ARE FOR PRODUCTS IN NEW CONDITION. AGE, WEAR, DAMAGE, DETERIORATION, AND ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE CAN GREATLY REDUCE STRENGTH. ALL PRODUCTS SHOULD BE REGULARLY INSPECTED AND ANY WORN, CUT, AGED, DAMAGED, MISUSED, OVERUSED, OR IMPROPERLY MAINTAINED PRODUCT SHOULD BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY.

IN MOST CASES, WORKING LOAD LIMITS REFERENCED ON THIS WEBSITE ARE RATED AT ONE-THIRD THE BREAKING STRENGTH. RATINGS ARE BASED ON A STRAIGHT TENSILE PULL. LOAD DIRECTIONS OTHER THAN STRAIGHT CAN RESULT IN A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN BREAKING STRENGTH.

LISTED BREAKING STRENGTHS DO NOT IMPLY ANY PARTICULAR WORKING LOAD LIMIT.

ALL CARGO RESTRAINING ASSEMBLIES OR SYSTEMS ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE WEAKEST COMPONENT, INCLUDING THE POINT OF ATTACHMENT. CAUTION: NEVER EXCEED WORKING LOAD LIMIT.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS OR PROPER USE, CARE AND INSPECTION CRITERIA COULD RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

WEBBING STRAP ASSEMBLIES

1) Webbing strap assemblies must be protected when used on or over corners, edges, and rough or sharp objects.
2) All strap assemblies require inspection each time before they are used.
3) Straps that are cut, worn, or otherwise damaged shall not be used.
4) Strap assemblies should never be tied into knots or allowed to become knotted.
5) All CustomTieDowns.com straps are load control devices and should not be used for overhead lifting.
6) Working load limits and requirements should be evaluated by the user before selecting appropriate hardware and strap assemblies.
7) All webbing strap assemblies or systems are only as strong as the weakest component, including the point of attachment.
8) The aggregate working load limit of any securement system used to secure cargo against movement must be at least one-half times the weight of the cargo. The aggregate working load limit is the sum of: (1) One-half of the working load limit of each associated connector or attachment mechanism used to secure a part of the article of cargo to the vehicle; and (2) One-half of the working load limit for each end section of a tie-down that is attached to an anchor point.

WINCH WARNINGS

1) To ensure user safety when tightening or loosening winches, always maintain a firm grip on winch tightening tool. Never release a winch tightening tool from its leveraged position without checking the pawl to ensure that it is fully engaged between the gear/sprocket teeth. Releasing a winch tightening tool without the pawl being properly engaged can cause serious injury to the user or bystanders.
2) Winches should never be used as pulling or lifting devices.
3) "Cheater Bars" or "extenders" should never be used with winch tightening tools.
4) All binders should be checked during transit and retensioned as required by Department of Transportation Regulations, 49 CFR Part 392, Section 392.9(b)(2)&(b)(3).
