GROMMETS
A grommet is a ring inserted into a hole through material like webbing. Grommets are generally flared or collared on each side to keep them in place.
Grommets are made up of two parts, the grommet and the washer. Grommets are installed using a die or tool and by pressing the grommet into the washer.
VARIATIONS: Grommet variations include hole size, neck length and finish. Grommets are identified by a size designation. Each size relates to a specific hole interior diameter. A complete guide of grommets used in strap production is available under the Grommet Sizes webpage.
Grommet neck length refers to the thickness of the material the grommet will be installed in. Standard grommets are designed to be installled in relatively thin materials. If installing in the thicker material or through multiple layers of material, long neck and extra long neck grommets are available.
Grommets are available in a variety of materials and finishes. Brass is the most common grommet material and is easily identified by the gold brass color. Grommets are also typically available in nickel finish, black finish and stainless steel. The grommet finish normally doesnt change the configuration of the grommet, just the esthetic.
PURPOSES: Grommets are typically used as an anchoring point to fasten a strap. The grommet helps prevent premature wear in the strap.
PRODUCTION: Grommet installation requires a die-set, also called a tool, to properly press the grommet and washer together. Also, die-sets are specific to the grommet manufacturer and grommet size, so make sure to check which die-set is required for the specific grommet
